Anne Hathaway first appeared in the TV series Get Real for only a season in 2001 and landed her first major role in the film The Other Side of Heaven. Widely known in her breakthrough performance as Princess Mia Thermopolis in the film Princess Diaries, the klutzy princess drew attention during the auditions and was immediately casted because she fell from the chair during the auditions. In one review, it is stated that “Hathaway shines in the title role and generates great chemistry”, which luckily resulted to the films success and a sequel was planned shortly after.

Hathaway is also known in the media as a children’s role model due to the comedy-oriented and family-oriented flicks she has done. In 2002, she starred in Nicholas Nickleby which opened to positive reviews and it was referred as “an unbelievably fun film” and that the cast was “Oscar-worthy".

In 2004, Hathaway starred another lead role in “Ella Enchanted”, and later that year, she started filming the sequel to Princess Diaries, Princess Diaries: The Royal Engagement. The film opened to negative reviews and peaked higher at the box office than its predecessor, but ended with lower ticket sales.

Anne Hathaway slowly moved away from family-friendly films and started appearing in more mature roles. In 2005, Hathaway was featured in nude and sexual scenes in the movie Havoc. Also the same year, she also appeared in the drama Brokeback Mountain, appearing nude in the film as well. In 2006,

Anne starred as an assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor in The Devil Wears Prada. During the filming of this movie, she claimed that working on the film earned her respect in the fashion industry, but her personal style is something else she can’t get right and prefers doing the things she loves.

This year, Anne is back as Jane Austen in Becoming Jane, she will also star as Agent 99 in the movie adaptation of the TV series Get Smart which will be released in 2008.
